I'm Claudia R., the breeder behind Krazy Island Shih Tzu located in Mountain View, HI. We are a small-scale boutique breeder, not a kennel. Our dogs live right inside our home and are a huge part of our daily life. The loyalty and loving disposition of this breed are unmatched! My goal is to provide healthy, well-adjusted companions to families throughout the islands.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I grew up in a family dedicated to dog breeding and have been raising puppies myself for over 25 years. I absolutely fell in love with the Shih Tzu breed after rescuing a Shih Tzu and learning more about them. Since moving to the Big Island in 2015, I have focused exclusively on raising high-quality Shih Tzu puppies in Hawaii, and I can't imagine my life without the love of a Shih Tzu.

  • What makes your program special?

    I put a great deal of effort into raising my pups to ensure that puppy families have the best experience raising their new family members. Every puppy goes through a comprehensive, age-appropriate curriculum to build confidence and social skills. By focusing on socialization and early enrichment, I make sure every puppy is ready for a lifetime of love.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include black, liver, blue, silver, liver and white, brindle and white, black and white, gold and white, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Claudia

Claudia has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Claudia partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“Choosing a puppy is a big deal, and I’m here to make it as easy as possible! Since I live in a more remote area on the Big Island, most of my buyers (whether they are local or on other islands) select their newest family member through photos and videos. Usually, people choose based on a specific color or look they’ve been dreaming of, or they just "know" when they see that one special face. Because we are in Hawaii, in-person visits aren’t usually doable before selection, but don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. I’m always happy to answer your questions and help guide you toward the pup that fits your vibe. What to expect from our Shih Tzu puppies: Adaptable Personalities: While I can sometimes spot a pup that’s a bit more mellow or extra outgoing, most Shih Tzu pups share that classic, happy-go-lucky personality. They are pros at fitting into almost any home. True Companions: These little ones just want to be with their people. Whether your "adventure" is a hike, a neighborhood stroll, or a marathon session on the couch, they are just happy to be included. Family Friendly: Most love to play and are great with kids and other pets, making them the ultimate "wherever you go, I go" partners. My goal is to help you find that perfect match so you can start your journey together with confidence!”

Puppy prices include a $1,000 non-refundable deposit and between $1,000 - $3,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Puppies come with a one-year health guarantee, provided on a spay/neuter contract. Pups come microchipped, have at least one vaccination, a travel carrier, a blanket that smells like home, a collar, a leash, a few of their favorite toys, and a small bag of their current food. The Reservation Fee will be applied to the total price of a puppy and reserves the puppy until their go-home date.”

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.
