Meet the breeder

I'm Sarah S., the breeder behind Prairie Fen Farm located in Hillsdale, MI. As a career livestock farmer, Animal Husbandry is my job. I've been rescuing, raising, training, re-training dogs for over 30 years. My goal is to bring happy, healthy puppies into the lives of other families, & I look forward to making a great match with you & yours!

Q. & A. with Sarah

  • Why did you start breeding?

It was a natural transition, raising many species of livestock for a living, & as a result of acquiring lesser quality dogs, I felt the need to apply my knowledge & abilities of creating top quality animals to dogs, too. My goal is to create better quality, healthier, hopefully longer-lived family members for others to bring into their worlds, for many years of joy, love & companionship.
  • What makes your program special?

health testing, careful selection, temperament evaluation, desensitization exercises, etc., to make a well-rounded psychologically, emotionally & physically healthy companion, who's ready for transition to the big outside world with as little trauma & drama as possible.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

We found our sweet girl, Hazel (Doby), in January. Sarah was a pleasure to work with and I could tell she wanted to be assured her pup was going to a good forever home. She responded swiftly to questions and requests for videos. We planned our pick up with ease and Hazel is doing so good. She is happy, so sweet and good tempered, and we love having her in our family! Thank you Sarah!

Sarah genuinely cares about the puppies she raises, and I highly recommend getting a puppy from her. My puppy Sasha (Tilly) is delightful, loving and a healthy bundle of joy. Sarah responded quickly to my questions and went out of her way to coordinate transportation and give me updated health documents. It was a pleasure to work with Sarah.
