Meet the breeder

I'm Ashley M., the breeder behind Di Massimo Canile located in Prospect, CT. Our dogs are bred for Soundness, Temperament and Versatility. We are dedicated to providing our families with wonderful, healthy, Working, active family companions.

Q. & A. with Ashley

  • Why did you start breeding?

In 2017, we adopted the sweetest boy named Arlo, a 12-week-old German Shepherd puppy who would change everything for us. Arlo, was burdened with a terminal congenital cardiac disease, one that could have been prevented through responsible and proper breeding practices. At just 10 weeks old, Arlo was diagnosed with severe Subaortic Stenosis, with an estimated life expectancy of only three months. Even knowing his time with us would be heartbreakingly short, we chose to adopt Arlo with one simple goal: to give him all the love, care, and support he deserved for as long as he was here. In that short time, Arlo defied every expectation. He became an Honorary K9 with a local police department and surpassed every milestone placed before him, celebrating his four month, six month, and ten month birthdays against all odds. Tragically, just before his first birthday, we lost Arlo on the operating table while attempting a life-saving procedure intended to give him a better quality of life. Since the day we lost Arlo, his legacy has guided everything we do. We have dedicated ourselves to researching, investing in, and building a program focused on exceptional health, breed-worthy structure, and temperament, particularly in our working line German Shepherds. Our commitment is to produce healthy GSD puppies so no family has to experience a loss like ours. Arlo is, and always will be, the reason behind Massimo Canile.
