Meet the breeder
I'm the breeder behind BriarKeep located in West Lafayette, IN. Two generations of our family care for and work with dogs. We have in the past had the pleasure of owning several Terriers, working, hound, and herding breeds. We now focus on two breeds—border terriers and papillons. Both breeds have wonderful qualities that align with our interests and lifestyles.

Two generations of our family care for and work with dogs. While our kennel is split between central Illinois and northwestern Indiana, our Papillons all live with us in Indiana. Our previous experiences in equestrian sports have helped us in working towards breeding dogs of sound body and mind.

Price
Puppy prices range from $2,000 and include a refundable deposit of $250.

What's included
Enrichment and socialization
Our goal is to expose our puppies to a rich and varied environment and introduce them to basic good citizen skills so their transition from our home to their new home is positive and successful with as little stress to the puppy and family as possible. Socialization begins very early with Early Neurological Stimulation and Scent Introduction along with daily handling. Quality bedding in the whelping pen ensures the best traction for puppies, but a variety of surfaces are rotated regularly for stimulation as well as toys, and other objects. As puppies develop they are exposed to a variety of sounds and a variety of chews, bones and hanging toys. Friends of all ages are invited to interact with the puppies regularly. Puppies are exposed to cats, horses and other adult dogs. Potty training begins with pee pads and then litter boxes. Grooming is started in the first week with toe nail trimmings and continues with baths, blow drying and the grooming table. When weather permits, outdoor adventure walks begin as well as car rides and visits to stores. Before leaving our home puppies have been introduced to crate training, harness and leash walking, clicker training and basic good citizen skills.
Puppy health practices
Before going to their new homes, all puppies are health checked by a licensed veterinarian. They are age-appropriately vaccinated based on their dams nomigraph ( blood titer), microchipped and tested for parasites. The worming protocol will be followed accordingly.

We send our puppies home with Blanket with Littermates Scent, Microchip, Blanket with Mom's Scent, Food Starter Bag, Puppy Leash, Puppy Collar, Vaccinations, Puppy Starter Kit, Volhard Personality Test, and Toy with Littermates' Scent.

After owning, showing, and competing with our dogs for decades, we realized how difficult it could be for individuals to find purebred puppies that are of suitable temperament and disposition for their homes. Our goal is to responsibly breed puppies to be lifelong companions.

Parent health testing
Papillon
Excellent level
BriarKeep reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Papillons.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
PRA (PRA1), Papillon Type, Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (NAD), Papillon Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
