I'm the breeder behind K-9 Twenty Nine: Vom Bauernhaus German Shepherds located in Needham, IN. Our mission is to produce top quality working GSD pups that are functional, structurally sound, and healthy lifelong companions. We look forward to connecting with you!
About Katy
My husband and I actively work all of our breeding and competition dogs at least 5 days a week to keep them happy, stimulated, and to tune up their training. We believe that the working dog loves having a job and thrives under this program. Each dog is an individual and requires special attention. We love our dogs and they remain very much a part of our family!!!
What makes Katy’s program special
Growing up, my dad was a K-9 handler for the Indianapolis Police Department, so I have been around working dogs for most of my life. We make it a priority to place pups with the handler or family that we beloved suits them best based on their needs and lifestyle. Not every pup in my litters are a schutzhund prospect, just like not all of them are pet companion prospects.

Katy has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies. You'll also have the chance to share a bit about yourself and what you're looking for in a new companion. Together, you'll choose the puppy that's right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.
Puppy prices range from $1,200 - $1,700 and include a non-refundable deposit of $300.
“Price reflects AKC Registration (limited or full TBD), 2 Neopar vaccinations, a Spectra 5 way, 4 dewormings, and a plentiful puppy pack. We ask for a $300 non refundable deposit to hold a puppy of your choosing. If you decide not to take the pup or can’t produce the rest of the funds by weaning date- your $300 will NOT be refunded.”
Katy may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. If Katy offers a contract or guarantee, the details will be personalized by them. If you have any questions or want to know more, don’t hesitate to reach out to Katy directly.
We are believers in lots of socialization. Our puppies are exposed to cows, goats, horses, chickens, as well as other large and small dogs. They are tested for drive with a flirt pole and a leather rag. We let them crawl on tarps and feed bags and shake them around to desensitize them. Our neighbors bring their kids over and play with them and they are handled from day 1. We also encourage potty training practices starting around 4-6 weeks. I utilize the following enrichment methods: Socialized with other animals, Introduced to people of different ages and appearances, Socialized with other dogs, Daily handling, Scent introduction, Socialized in new places, Socialized with children, Surface & tactile stimulation, Car rides, Various sounds, Confidence Building, Behavioral shaping , Sound Stimulation, Socialized with Elderly, Socialized with Other Animals, Socialized with Adult Dogs, Socialized with Cats, and Socialized with Children.
All puppies are administered 3 vaccinations prior to pick up. They are given by my aunt who is a registered Vet Tech.
We send our puppies home with Blanket with mom & littermates’ scent, Puppy starter kit, Toys, Food & treats, Vet records, Registration, Toy with Littermates' Scent, Food Starter Bag, Blanket with Mom's Scent, and AKC Registration.
Katy offers options to help you easily get your new puppy home.
If you’re nearby, you can visit in person to pick up your pup. If you’re far away, you can travel by car or plane.
Work with a trusted flight nanny or transporter to get your puppy comfortably dropped off at an airport or meeting point close to home.
Why Katy started breeding
I really love genetics and once we got involved in Schutzhund, I was really interested in creating some truly versatile dogs that are naturally protective of their family, could excel in bite sports, AKC sports, security, or law enforcement while also being a quality family companion with a nice off switch- with emphasis on genetic health and structural soundness (good hips and elbows).

Katy was responsive and great at communicating. Its been 1.5 years since I picked up my dog and I have zero complaints. If I were to ever buy another puppy I definitely will look at K-9 Twenty Nine.

Katy was an amazing person to work with! After our prior experience with a bad breeder working with Katy was a breath of fresh air, she was straight forward and willing to ask any questions we asked!...

She is such a good puppy with very sharp teeth. She's learning so quickly.
