Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Marie Burris located in South Carolina. I'm new to Frenchies, I have two mentors in the breed. I come from Shar-pei, Frenchies are much different. I have much to learn.

Marie’s experience

  • About Marie

Originally from Indiana, I started with purebred dogs there. I have bred, raise, and shown Shar-pei since 1996. I now live in South Carolina and have always liked the French Bulldog. I still have the wrinkled face, like Shar-pei, but in a smaller body. I have two mentors in the breed and have a lot to learn. Frenchies have more health issues than Shar-pei. Breeding Frenchies is a big challenge.

  • What makes Marie’s program special

I think of myself as a slow breeder. I don't rush to put a breeding pair together. There is a lot of thought, health testing, and pedigree analysis to take into consideration. My mentors at this point are helping in this process as well. I consider the biggest challenge to be finding the correct home for each pup. The personalities must match. Families need to be dedicated to their new addition.

What's included

Enrichment and socialization

Getting the pup out of their comfort zone and introducing them to several different things and situations. As soon as vaccinations start and my veterinarian says its ok, we get them out in the yard. I invite people to the house so pups can see and smell different people. Car rides are important too. I get them to eat in different places and off of and out of different bowls/plates. Introduction to everything new that each pup my encounter in their new home. For instance, if there is a wheelchair/walker/cane ect.. get them used to that. Cat, have the new family bring something the cat sleeps on. Same with a baby. Ect.

Puppy health practices

I like to have pups in their new homes at 10 weeks, but not before this time. All worming, vaccinations, microchips, are given appropriate up to that age. I get the name and phone number of new owners veterinarians to let them know the of any additional vaccinations that need to be done. My Vet checks each pup with a letter stating that the pup is healthy and ready for their forever new home.

Extras

Your puppy may come with extra benefits, like a small bag of food or a toy carrying the scent of their littermates. While Marie Burris hasn’t shared specifics yet, we encourage you to reach out directly to learn what thoughtful extras they may include to help your puppy transition comfortably into their new home.

More about Marie

  • Why Marie started breeding

I have always been interested in them. They have the face and wrinkles like the Shar-pei, but in a smaller body and they have a clown-like attitude toward life. I started talking to a breeder from Georgia that was willing to mentor me. I explained to her that I don't take breeding lightly and I will be needing guidance in this breed. I eventually received a male pup from her.
