I'm the breeder behind Taensas Boykins located in Stapleton, AL. Each of our dogs has brought so much happiness to us throughout their lives. We want to do our part to produce wonderful, healthy dogs that can bring other people joy as well, and we strive to provide each of our puppies with loving homes where they can live happy lives.

Getting a puppy from Barbara

Barbara has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies. You'll also have the chance to share a bit about yourself and what you're looking for in a new companion. Together, you'll choose the puppy that's right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.

Price

Puppy prices range from $2,500 and include a non-refundable deposit of $500.

“Puppies will have their dew claws removed, tails docked,and checkup at 3 days old. Weekly deworming. At 6 weeks they’ll have their first shots and be microchipped. Extensive socialization training. The deposit will hold your puppy order. Selections to be made after May 1st.”

What's included

Enrichment and socialization

Our puppies were whelped in our home and are under constant observation. Since the first days, we handle and interact with each puppy separately each day They will move into a playpen at 4 weeks and will be introduced textures, toys, loud voices and begin the weaning process. Some playtime with their dad and our 5 month old puppy will ensue. After their shots at 6 weeks, they will feel grass and concrete, be exposed to live birds, gun shots and water. I utilize the following enrichment methods: And showed lots of love, Potty opportunities on various surfaces, car riding , Structures, e.g. Climbing, Various Surfaces , Noises , Scents, Toys, e.g. Ball, Grooming Desensitization, Touch Desensitization, Early Neurological Stimulation, Sound Stimulation, Socialized with Adult Dogs, Socialized with Cats, and Socialized with Children.

Puppy health practices

All puppies have had their three day check up, tails docked and dew claws removed. They will be vaccinated and a general health and worm check at 6 weeks.

We send our puppies home with Socialist , Dew claws removed, Sound and texture enrichment, Vaccinations, Puppy Starter Kit, Microchipped , Soft Carrier Bag, Toy with Littermates' Scent, Puppy Collar, Blanket with Littermates Scent, and Boykin Spaniel Society Pup Registration.

If you’re nearby, you can visit in person to pick up your pup. If you’re far away, you can travel by car or plane.

    We love the breed having owned one for almost 15 years. Since we retired we sought out a high quality pair to breed as a hobby. We wanted to help keep the breed pure by exercising due diligence in breeding all practices. It’s become a labor of love.

  • Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary), Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Elbow Dysplasia (Preliminary)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA), Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
