I'm the breeder behind DrakeFire Dachshunds located in Hazlehurst, GA. DrakeFire Dachshunds is located in Southeastern Georgia. All of my litters are raised in my home. We are a small program of AKC registered Dachshunds, and each dog is a member of the family. As such, they live and play indoors and in our fenced yard just like any good dog should.
Q. & A. with Kayce
Why did you start breeding?
After Tobias’ loss, I purchased my first breeding Stud in 2020, and my first Bitch in 2022 for the foundation of my lines. My dogs are my family FIRST. Their home life comes first! I make every effort to provide the ultimate good dog life for each of them. They reward me with bringing this breed to share with loving and approved homes. Each buyer is screened for appropriateness, not all who apply will make the “cut” for the privilege of adopting one of our beloved puppies.
What makes your program special?
Looking for “Big Dog Persona” in a small package? Look no further than the pups at DrakeFire dachshunds! Speaking of size, DrakeFire prioritizes sound bodied dachshunds over size. We do not attempt to breed “small” dogs. Our planning for each pairing has very little to do with overall size of adult dogs produced. Some of our puppies will be under 11 pounds at adulthood, others may be up to 19lbs. Structure is important for this long bodied low rider. Sometimes, it takes a larger frame to protect that long sausage from common breed related risks. It really just depends on each individual dog and the genetics that will combine within that pairing. The best size gauge of adulthood for any pup is the previous two generations, but is not always a perfect science. Most importantly, a puppy from DrakeFire is a privilege we reserve for the best Doxie loving families out there. In return, we offer a lifetime of support and friendship for you and your newest DrakeFire Dachshunds family member.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include piebald, sable, cream, red, black, brindle, black and cream, chocolate and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Program update on 15 June •
These babies are growing every single day! They have healthy appetites, and move around a whole bunch following the “milk bar” of Momma Tinks on demand breakfast lunch and dinner diner :) I love this stage when they are so tiny and innocent, but I cannot wait for there to be some eyes cracking open, and some walking and running around! The first three weeks are the easiest and most laid back of all the weeks in the origin home. Round about that fourth week, the work seems to triple, but the reward does as well, as you really begin to see those beautiful little personalities shining through.

Litter update on 09 June •
Mother dog Tink just discovered her “Big Brother” (motion activated camera) above her kennel den. 😆 She isn’t sure about what kind of noises it is making, and even less sure about how it seems to be moving around! You can bet if those puppers were not nursing, she’d be taking a closer look at that thing.

Program update on 04 June •
The little angels have arrived!! Five puppies: three girls and two boys. Cream and Fawn and Cream dapples. Most all will be available for adoption but the three females need a little more evaluation before I decide which one is being retained for the program here at DrakeFire Dachshunds

Litter update on 27 May •
Mother dog Tink has faired excellent through her pregnancy and is getting close to her date of whelping. I can gauge this by observing that her belly has drooped lower into a more “hanging” position vs the previous look of her belly was close to body on the underside and outward protruding on each side. When looking downward at her from above, you can now see her waistline is more pronounced since her belly is drooping toward the floor. When she is laying beside me on the couch, I can feel the babies moving under her skin against my leg. If I place my hand gently on her tummy, I can feel them rolling and kicking just below my hand. It’s a magical time for us here at DrakeFire Dachshunds, with a similar vibe as to Christmas Morning 🎁 🐾 😇 Will update soon!

Kayce has been supportive throughout my purchase of Theo. I have been working with dachshund rescue since 2012 and Kayce has the most compassionate and genuine breeder I have met. Her primary goal is to raise quality, healthy dachshunds. We quickly exchanged numbers so that the meeting process would be flawless. My eight month old long haired boy and her beautiful black and tan "Mufasa" at first meeting, weren't sure they would agree to be "brothers" from a different mother, but once I got Theo at my home, he and Micah became the best of friends, inseparable playmates! I will be buying another dog from Kayce in the future. Feel confident in the health and vitality of dachshunds bred at DrakeFire!

It was such a pleasure adopting my little guy from Kayce at Big Daddy’s Dachshunds! She was always quick to respond, answered all of my questions throughly, and did a few video calls with me so I could see how Hank was doing till he headed my way. Hank is the perfect pup and I would definitely adopt from Big Daddy’s Dachshunds again.
