Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Bennett Goldens located in San Diego, CA. Through heavy research and careful selection, Bennett Goldens strives to reproduce and train desireable qualities in Golden Retrievers while actively seeking to decrease the incidence of genetic and structural problems common to this breed. We carefully consider pedigrees, Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) percentages, genetic screening results, and PennHip and/or OFA results at recommended ages in addition to parental structure, temperament, and characteristics.

Q. & A. with Amy

  • Why did you start breeding?

I guess I started breeding as a response to the declining longevity in Golden Retrievers and the challenge and conviction to reverse that trend. I considered midwifery in nursing school. When I started considering breeding, it seemed like a really natural fit of skills and I got excited about unearthing some old skills and seeing old dreams come to life in a new way.
  • What makes your program special?

I care a lot about every puppy and every family they go to. In our early litters, every puppy was born in our home and started out as a member of our own family. All of our puppies are handled and loved on by our family and friends. We believe in health testing and doing ENS & ESI to give every puppy a strong start and strive to do what is reasonably in our power to give them a healthy long life.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Rue is amazing!! She is so smart. She is a happy and playful puppy with lots of energy. She listen well and likes to cuddle. She learned how to shake in about 10 minutes! She loves our old golden Solo and he tolerate her..lol. Rue is so loved and we are so happy to have her be a part of our family.

Amy and Bennett Goldens were a great experience for me and my family. I contacted Amy when I was looking for a Golden Retriever Puppy after meeting her on this site. She shared with me photos of the mother dog, Maya and shared her passion for Golden Retrievers and breeding. The attention to details, the testing she put the pups through at various stages, her history of raising therapy animals, and her breeding based on disposition immediately attracted me to her program. We adopted our boy Gunther 3 years ago and he is my dream dog. His disposition is calm yet playful, and he is amazing. In addition to his disposition, he is a BEAUTIFUL dog. I get stopped every time we leave the house by strangers who complement his looks and demeanor. He is a famous boy at the dog park and even has a small following on social media. I would recommend Bennett Goldens to anyone who is interested in a Golden puppy!

I am beyond thankful for Amy and Bennett Goldens. We had been looking for a puppy for over a year now and when I bumped into Bennett Goldens page on good dog I knew we had found the breeder that had my full trust. Her transparency from the start, and the fact that she was also interviewing me as much as I was interviewing the program was what really settled my mind. We picked up our Harvey almost two weeks ago and are so in love. He is such a great puppy, puts himself to sleep, poops in his grass patch, and love to show off any tricks he’s learned! I love how he is so desensitized to sounds, he can hear other dogs barking, people knocking, ambulances, you name it, he won’t react! That’s a true testament to the dedication Amy puts towards the puppies from such an early age. I am beyond happy that we decided to get a puppy from Bennett Goldens, and would recommend 100%, you will not regret your decision!
