Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Big Coon Little Aussies located in Stevenson, AL. Targeting beautiful, correctly proportioned and healthy mid-sized Minis since 2013. Born in my closet and raised in my house, my puppies are carefully introduced to new sounds, games, and activities as they grow. I nuture these fat little seeds into the very best they can be for your family.

Q. & A. with Lydia

  • Why did you start breeding?

Patsy was my first Mini Aussie. Quite on her own, she became an In-Your-Face frisbee dog. She was so much fun, I wanted another one just like her. I got her husband, Ben, who by sheer accident turned out to be a grand-slam champion in the show ring, as well as a delightful herding competitor. I was hooked!
  • What makes your program special?

My dogs are my family. I currently have 6, and they all sleep on their own beds in my bedroom. Puppies are born in the closet. Traveling revolves around frisbee competitions and other dog events. I am always looking for ways to improve my dogs' conformation, temperament, health, and lineage. Whether by reading or seminars or help from other breeders.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

In 2023, I had the pleasure of flying down to Tennessee to pick up a beautiful blue merle mini Aussie, who was then named "Hotty Toddy." From the moment I connected with Lydia, it was clear that she' someone who genuinely cares for her dogs. The transition from Lydia's care to mine was seamless. She provided me with everything I needed for the journey home, including a water bowl and a plush toy that Hotty Toddy still loves to this day. These thoughtful touches spoke volumes about Lydia’s attention to detail and her understanding of how important it is to make both the puppy and new owner feel comfortable. Lydia is incredibly knowledgeable, which is evident in her social media presence. It’s clear she’s dedicated to ensuring each puppy grows up in a loving, healthy environment. The care and time she invests in her dogs is unparalleled, and it’s something I deeply appreciated when making such an important decision. Back in Brooklyn, Hotty Toddy has become an integral part of our family. She’s the sweetest dog – smart, affectionate, and so well-behaved. I couldn’t have asked for a better companion, and I owe much of that to Lydia’s loving and professional approach. If you’re looking for a dog breeder who is knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly cares about her dogs, I highly recommend Lydia. My experience was nothing short of amazing.

After much research, and looking into breeders, my husband and I decided to surprise our girls with not one, but two, Aussie puppies from Lydia. We were traveling at the time the puppies were ready for pick up, but Lydia so kindly agreed to hang onto them for a little extra time so we could get them after our trip. In talking to Lydia, you can tell she cares so much about the puppies and making sure they have good homes. It has been a little over a year now, and our puppies are thriving! They love having each other to play with, and have grown into great family dogs. Our girls roll on the floor with them and play, and the pups are always gentle with them. We love having Hank (previously Twelfth Man) and Louie (previously Aubbie) as part of our family! I cannot recommend Lydia enough if you’re looking for a little Aussie.
