I'm the breeder behind Drakyi Tibetan Mastiffs located in Palmdale, CA. I've been an AKC Tibetan Mastiff preservation breeder and judge since 1978. My Tibetan Mastiffs are giant lion-type dogs from native Tibetan lines. Here is an introduction to the breed and to Drakyi Tibetan Mastiffs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z8W9RNxtzY&t=107s I also work with high-quality Australian Shepherds in my program.
Q. & A. with Richard
Why did you start breeding?
I became interested in the Tibetan Mastiff in 1978 after seeing the breed featured on the cover of a Life Magazine. 40 years later, I still love and appreciate this breed just as much as when I first laid eyes on it! My goal is to preserve, protect, and produce the historic, original Mastiff while also educating the public and judges alike and to see the breed shine in its rightful ancestral place in the canine world.
What makes your program special?
My commitment to you is to produce the highest-quality, healthiest, and most historically correct examples of the Tibetan Mastiff whether to serve as family guardians and companions, to found breeding programs worldwide, or to participate in performance events. We have spent decades developing our signature line and those efforts have accomplished us with more National Specialty Winners, more OFA Certified TMs than all other breeders combined, AKC's first TB to win Best in Show, and the only Westminster Group Placement and Multi-Best in Show winner!
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home, guardian homes, and a kennel on my property.
