Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Monarch Rhodesian Ridgebacks located in Chesapeake, VA. The focus for my breeding program is centered on planning a litter of pups based on temperament, intelligence, maintaining breed standards, and health. Qualities specific to Rhodesian Ridgebacks that are important to my breeding program include: conforming to height standards, weight, color, ridge details, intelligence, temperament, and health.

Laurie’s experience

  • About Laurie

I grew up on a family farm where selection of breeding stock was an essential task for success with swine, cattle, horses, mink, chickens, turkeys and dogs. Qualities in animals extend beyond conformation to include temperament, predictability, and intelligence just to name a few. I use my farm animal experience to guide my decisions when breeding my dogs. After working with my first RR, I found that they are the perfect breed of dog for my lifestyle. RRs can be the best house dog and the best field dog when they are given the right amount of exercise and discipline. RR owners can not be faint of heart when it comes to discipline. You must set standards for what is allowed and not allowed from day one. RR are extremely smarrt and in my opinion easy to train as long as you have food and you have patience that lasts for days.

     …
  • What makes Laurie’s program special

I only breed my dogs when I want a pup for myself and only when I can find an acceptable mate for the litter. There are various temperaments in RRs so choosing the best breeding pair is a very important decision. It is also important to evaluate puppies to determine their best fit with potential owners.
