I'm the breeder behind Moongate Cavaliers located in Las Cruces, NM. My program is a little different in that I ask buyers to wait to finalize their choice of puppy at 7-8 weeks. That is when we do a temperament test. This helps you know the energy level and budding personality of your new family member. I send videos once or twice a week so you can see them blossom.

  • About Kelly

    I have always loved Cavaliers and began breeding them occasionally in 2016 with a focus on health and early socialization. Since that time I have really enjoyed learning from programs like Avidog, Puppy Culture and the AKC Canine College. For many many years I was active in the Quarter Horse world. Now I enjoy the dog world so much. There are so many fun dog sports and shows.

  • What makes Kelly’s program special

    I want to raise well adjusted dogs, dogs that will be a heart dog for their new family. So at 7 weeks we do the Volhard Puppy Aptitude test. That's when buyers can make their final selection. This helps them to have homes where their energy level and personalities are a perfect fit. I send videos to help buyers see puppies grow. Also we work really hard to get housebreaking off to a good start!

Getting a puppy from Kelly

Kelly has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies. You'll also have the chance to share a bit about yourself and what you're looking for in a new companion. Together, you'll choose the puppy that's right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.

Puppy prices range from $3,000 - $3,500 and include a refundable deposit of $200.

“Puppies have a 2 year health guarantee on such things as heart murmur, patellas and hips. They are AKC registered on LIMITED papers but I will work with select buyers for OPEN papers. $200 deposit to be received toward puppy purchase. Fully refundable in case of illness or accident before delivery of puppy. Can also be transferred to future litters.”

What's included

Enrichment and socialization

All puppies are raised in our home. I use ENS from days 3-16 along with the Puppy Culture program. I expose them to noises of all kinds and people of all ages, colors, and sizes. Pups are completely litterbox trained and have been accustomed to a dog door when they go home and I provide ongoing support as needed. I utilize the following enrichment methods: Socialized with other animals, Daily handling, Introduced to people of different ages and appearances, Socialized with other dogs, Socialized with children, Socialized in new places, Scent introduction, Surface & tactile stimulation, Car rides, Various sounds, We litter box train our puppies by 6 weeks and begin crate training to develop positive experiences that make potty training easier for you, Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) , Grooming and Nail Care, Introduction to crate training, outside potty training , Manding, surface and tactile stimulation, Litter Box Trained, Human Interactions , Car Training , Puppy Culture , Household Desensitization, Puppy Culture , Socialized with Cats, Socialized with Children, Socialized with Adult Dogs, Grooming Desensitization, Socialized with Elderly, Early Neurological Stimulation, Sound Stimulation, Touch Desensitization, Structures, e.g. Climbing, Strangers, Various Surfaces , car riding , Outdoors, e.g. rain, Early stages of crate training, Potty opportunities on various surfaces, Socialized with farm animals, start of puppy recall with treats, positive experiences in all situations, the starting of house breaking, exposure to agility tunnel, wobble board and other novel items, Exposure to poultry, Dog Door Training, Socialization, Exposure to livestock, Select friends and family, household pets, television, radio, appliances, scenarios in home for confidence building. , limited exposure to resident adult dogs, Start of Impulse Control, Human contact from birth, and on daily basis, Bathing, grooming and nail trimming., Explore outside, Trips to businesses in town to meet strangers, other dogs, and see things inside businesses. , and We practice Puppy Culture, a program that conditions your puppy with early neurological stimulation and socializing techniques that reduce stress and fear for the development of a healthy, happy puppy.

Puppy health practices

I do a nomograph on the mother dog and send her titer to the University of WI CAVIDS testing lab. They then send me a report advising exact times for pups to receive a vaccine based on the mothers antibodies. This protocol not only helps limit number of vaccines needed but also assures that they are at work to protect your puppy. I can provide links for more info if requested.

    I got into breeding after enjoying the company of several wonderful Cavaliers. I raised Quarter Horses in the past but really found my calling with Cavaliers. I especially love early development and socialization I can do with newborn until go home day puppies. The wealth of education available on dog rearing has really amazed me.     Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
