I'm the breeder behind Old Soul Black & Tan Coonhounds located in Waverly, NE. Our dogs are, first and foremost, our companions. We want to provide dogs that make great family pets! AKC Black and Tan Coonhounds and Bracco Italianos are wonderful family pets when bred for an appropriate temperament. We strive to give them every advantage so they can accomplish any and every goal put in front of them, and we are proud of what they do!

    While we are very involved in showing our dogs, they are beloved companions first and foremost. We decided to responsibly breed them as a way to connect our pups to others that will love them just as much as we do. Our dogs have enriched our lives in ways we never imagined, and we are so happy to be able to share the wonderful qualities of the breed with others. Owning a Coonhound or a Bracco Italiano is a beautiful experience, and it would be our honor to connect you with the perfect new addition to your family.

Getting a puppy from Raven

Raven has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies. You'll also have the chance to share a bit about yourself and what you're looking for in a new companion. Together, you'll choose the puppy that's right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.

Price

Puppy prices range from $1,500 - $3,000 and include a non-refundable deposit of $500.

“This covers AKC registration, microchip, puppy vaccines, deworming, health guarantee, and lifelong breeder support. All puppies in each litter are the same price. We accept deposits at 4 weeks of age and assign homes to puppies after their full evaluations at 7 and 8 weeks.”

Contract and health guarantee

Raven may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. What's included

Enrichment and socialization

Puppies are raised within our home, socialized to our children, other dogs, and other pets. They are accustomed to car travel from early on. We begin recall training with their first meals and introduce clicker work soon after. We follow Puppy Culture protocols, introduce crate training and basic obedience commands. Pups accompany us to work after 6 weeks of age for further socialization. I utilize the following enrichment methods: Socialized with Children, Socialized with Cats, Socialized with Adult Dogs, Socialized with Other Animals, Household Desensitization, Grooming Desensitization, Touch Desensitization, Structures, e.g. Climbing, Stores, Sound Stimulation, Various Surfaces, Car Rides, Outdoors, e.g. rain, Scent Stimulation, Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), "No" Biting or Chewing, Leash Walking, Crate Training, Clicker Training, Name Recognition, Basic Manners, Basic Obedience Commands, Initial House Training, Recall Training, and Conformation Training.

Puppy health practices

Puppies are vaccinated according to veterinary health standards (AVMA recommendations). The dams are treated with Panacur during pregnancy to prevent parasite transmission and puppy litters are screened for parasites at least twice, and treated as needed. Puppies are examined at 6 weeks of age and microchipped. CAER (eye) exams are done on all litters at 8 weeks of age.

  • Hip Dysplasia , Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary)

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Standard Veterinary Blood Panel, Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
