Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Palomar Kennels located in Rio Linda, CA. Many of our puppies have become exceptional show dogs, and all of them have become excellent family dogs and lifelong friends. While we love showing our dogs, we get so much more enjoyment from the company of living with Australian Cattle Dogs and Smooth Fox Terriers. We love what we do and have lots of experience to share!

Breeder-Reported Testing

Great level

Palomar Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Australian Cattle Dogs.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Primary Lens Luxation (PLL)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
