Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Rising Phoenix Farm located in Morning View, KY. CURRENT WAIT LIST IS TWO YEARS. All of my Anatolian Shepherds are working livestock guardian dogs living with their herds 24/7. They must have proper temperament, conformation, and working ability to be considered for the program. I do not place puppies in pet homes under any circumstances as my lines are working lines and not appropriate as house dogs.

Mary’s experience

  • About Mary

I come from a long line of farmers and currently raise rare and endangered livestock breeds of cattle, sheep, and goats. All of my livestock are 100% pasture-raised in natural settings. I practice a natural, more organic method to raising animals and incorporate conventional veterinary methods when needed. I work on the farm full time.

  • What makes Mary’s program special

All puppies are raised using the Puppy Culture program. They are highly socialized in their time here. They are exposed to livestock from the very beginning and living with them full time. The puppies learn very early that their job is the livestock. I also show a few of the dogs in AKC shows to prove that conformationally correct working dogs can be successful in the show ring.

What's included

Enrichment and socialization

On our working farm, we have a lot of visitors and puppies always bring more! Starting at 3 weeks old, our visitors are allowed to visit with puppies to help socialize them. The Puppy Culture program helps further mentally stimulate and desensitize puppies. Also, being on a farm with constant activity and noise helps make bombproof and confident dogs. I utilize the following enrichment methods: Puppy Culture , Outdoors, e.g. rain, and Socialized with Other Animals.

Puppy health practices

I practice a very delayed and minimal vaccination schedule. Anatolians are known to be sensitive to over-vaccination and reactions are common. They only receive exactly what they need and at the age they need it. Puppies are dewormed at 2, 4, and 6 weeks and then fecal tested at their 8-week old veterinary visit. Pups stay here until 12 weeks and can continue to nurse during that time.

Extras

Your puppy may come with extra benefits, like a small bag of food or a toy carrying the scent of their littermates. While Rising Phoenix Farm hasn’t shared specifics yet, we encourage you to reach out directly to learn what thoughtful extras they may include to help your puppy transition comfortably into their new home.

More about Mary

  • Why Mary started breeding

When I was looking for a new breeder to get additional Anatolian Shepherds, I found it was very difficult to find the type of breeder that I was looking for. I needed dogs that were raised outside with livestock from the very beginning. After I finally found the very few like-minded breeders, I started my own breeding program to raise more dogs in a suitable, encouraging, and working environment.
