McKenzie’s experience

  • About McKenzie

My love for Labs started at a young age as I grew up showing labs in both obedience and conformation, along with handling dogs while out hunting waterfowl. My long time stepmom is a veterinarian and has been a huge positive influence on our program! We are very passion-driven and our lives literally revolve around our dogs. It’s safe to say we love our dogs and what we do!

  • What makes McKenzie’s program special

We really care about our dogs and puppies. We make sure to do all the breed-specific health testing and make sure each dog has the correct temperament before we choose to breed. We also raise all our puppies using a lot of the puppy culture protocols which seem to produce more happy and well-rounded puppies.

What's included

Enrichment and socialization

We raise our puppies with a lot of the Puppy Culture protocols, so we do ENS, introduction to a lot of different textures, sounds, new environments, etc. We also litter train them and start the crate training process. Unfortunately due to living in a high parvo risk area we only allow family and close friends to visit with the puppies before they have their shots and are ready to go home. I utilize the following enrichment methods: Potty Training, Crate Training, Clicker Training, Puppy Culture , Bird Introduction, Socialized with Children, Socialized with Cats, Socialized with Adult Dogs, Sound Stimulation, Household Desensitization, Early Neurological Stimulation, Toys, e.g. Ball, and Puppy Culture .

 …
Puppy health practices

Our puppies are checked over by our vet at 2 or 3 days old, dewormed at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks of age. Vet checked again at 7 weeks old- they receive their age-appropriate shots at this appointment. They also get microchipped before going home and we get state-issued health certificates on every puppy who is being taken across our state line.

Extras

We send our puppies home with AKC Registration, Certificate of Health, Food Starter Bag, Microchip, Puppy Collar, Toy with Littermates' Scent, Vaccinations, and Puppy Starter Kit.

More about McKenzie

  • Why McKenzie started breeding

My stepmom introduced our family to our first well-bred Labrador Retriever when I was 8 years old and sort of opened a door for me. Being she’s a veterinarian, I had a lot of hands-on experience with the process of breeding and whelping from a young age. As I grew older I started studying pedigrees more and more and when I bought my own home I decided to start my own program.
