My name is Heather, I have been involved with animals for as long as I can remember, my father is a Veterinarian (semi-retired now). Growing up I had a love for animals and continue with the love to this day. My dogs are my children and I treat my puppies accordingly as well.

  • What makes Heather’s program special

I feel that I have an outstanding program in that I do all available health tests on my breeding dogs. My goal as a breeder is to improve the breed not only in looks, but health and longevity as well. I feel that health testing provides a solid foundation for this.

More about Heather

  • Why Heather started breeding

I got into breeding originally because I raised Standard Poodles and Westies and saw a lack of health testing in the breeds. I wanted to have puppies that were healthy and could live a long life with their puppies. I now see that same problem with Yorkies, which is why I health test my parents prior to breeding them.

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Legg-Calve-Perthes (OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
