I'm the breeder behind Weathervane Labs located in Kernersville, NC. Our Labs are bred for health and temperament and to maintain the breed standard in all colors including dilutes. Our labs are bred for families as well as the avid recreational hunter. We typically have 3 to 4 onsite litters per year and our studs have several offsite litters. An approved application gets you on our waitlist. Once we breed we will start taking $500 deposits to be on the final puppy pick list.
About Melanie
I'm a nurse by trade but have always loved dogs. I grew up with Labrador Retrievers and my parents bred them for a while when I was young. I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 28 years and we have three wonderful daughters ages 26, 23, and 21. Our first grandchild was born in April 2021 and she is already spoiled rotten! We recently moved to a 24 acre equestrian farm to have plenty of room for our Labs to run and play! We currently also have 3 horses and 2 barn kitties!
What makes Melanie’s program special
Genetic health testing is a very important part of our breeding program, not only do we want beautiful Labrador Retrievers but we also want healthy ones! DNA testing gives us the opportunity to use genetics to pair our males and females for litters that are free from common genetic disorders but also exhibit the standard Labrador characteristics that we all love. So, what is a dilute Labrador Retriever? Our puppies are well-adjusted to a home environment and socialized with children and other dogs. We use the Puppy Culture program that is scientifically proven to greatly improve outcomes for puppies! It explores the critical early periods of development that each puppy goes through as well as what you can do to increase your odds of raising a happy, socially successful, and trainable dog. I utilize the following enrichment methods: Potty Training, Crate Training, "No" Biting or Chewing, Socialized with Adult Dogs, Socialized with Children, Sound Stimulation, Household Desensitization, Early Neurological Stimulation, Touch Desensitization, Toys, e.g. Ball, Chew, e.g. Bone, Structures, e.g. Climbing, Biosensor Training, Early socialization, Name recognition , Pee pad, Noise desensitization, We litter train our puppies by 4 weeks which makes crate training very easy., Noises , and Various Surfaces .
All puppies are vaccinated at our vet before they go home. Deworming is done at 2, 4, and 6 weeks of age. We also insert a microchip in each puppy at about 3 weeks old.
We send our puppies home with AKC Registration, Blanket with Littermates' and Mom's scents, Vet Administered Vaccinations, and Microchip.
